Some Red Wines worthy of note

Chateau de Sauvanes from the Faugeres appellation is an excellent example of the progress that is being made in producing wines in this northerly region of the Pays d'Oc.

The blend of grapes is Syrah, Grenache and Mouverdre.

The wine is complex with a long finish and is excellent to complement duck or pork.             Cost £2.95

The place to buy this lovely example is Vignerons & Passions at 34725 St Felix de Lodez, France.  This large pink building is to be found on the left at the first roundabout on the N109 to Montpellier after leaving the A75 Autoroute going south.

They stock some 500 wines, all of which are on taste but beware of the bottles that have been stored open too long for tasting.  Don't hesitate to reject and ask for a new bottle to be opened.

It is worth a detour because there are lots because there are lots of seriously good wines at very low prices.  They close from 12.30 to 1pm but will be happy to recommend a good restaurant to you if you arrive with not enough time to taste and browse before lunch.

Their e-mail address is:  caveau@vignerons-passions.fr
