This is a tasting of three white wines and five red wines from Wine Finders.

Simcic Trojka 1999, BRDA Slovenia,  Grapes Rebula, Oinot and Tokai   13%.  The colour was deep with a brownish hue giving it the look of an ageing chardonnay.  The nose was of toast and smoke and lots of lemon came through on the flavour.  The finish was rather short and sharp.       11/20

       £4.99

Sutor Laurencic Chardonnay, Z.K.G.P. Vipava Dolina, Primorje, Slovenia, 1999, 14% A deep yellow wine with a nose of grassy oil in a garage.  Flavours of metallic honey came through but the finish was sharp, rough and simply not a good flavour.       10.5/20

       £7.99

Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc, 2003, Adelaide Hills, South Australia, 13%.  A very pale, delicate colour, the wine had the typical nose of gooseberry with some grass and a hint of delightful elderflower.  In the mouth, flavours of gooseberry, mango and other tropical fruits abounded.  The finish was smooth and long.  An elegant wine.        16/20

       £9.99

Lexicon "Bush Vine Zinfandel" 2000, Central Coast, California. 13%.  A very dark red wine with a nose of ribena in grass.  In contrast the flavour was sharp, flat and sweet.  The wine was low in tannin and had a short sharp finish.         11/20

        £5.99

Borie la Vitarelle, "Bouisset"  Vd P Coteaux de Languedoc 2000, 14%.  A deep shiny red, this wine had a powerful blackcurrent nose.  In the mouth it was sweet and vibrant with spicy and fruity overtones.  A long smooth finish complemented the wine.         14.5/20

         £6.99

Dom. de la Prose "Les Cadieres"  Coteaux de Languedoc, France 14% 2000, Syrah, Grenache, Mouverdre.  A dark red wine with a soft, fruity  nose.  The flavour was fruity with some pepper but the wine was a shade closed.  The finish was long but faint.         13.5/20

         £7.50

Quadratura del Cerchio, Pigreco, 2001.  IGT Rosso di Abruzzo, 100% Montepulciano aged in French and Slovenian barrels.  21st Jan 2004

A selection of wines from deFine wines, Sandiway.

Paarl Chenin Blanc, Paarl Heights, 2003, 13.5%.

This pale delicate wine had a bouquet of fresh, crisp apples.  In the mouth, the wine was full and rounded with the apple flavour coming through.  The finish was lingering.  This would be an excellent apperetif.

        15.5/20

         £3.99

Limari Valley Viognier from Francisco de Aguirre , Chile, 2001 12.5%.  The bouquet was of a syrup tart.  The flavour was full and buttery but with a sharp edge and very dry on the finish.           11.5/20

         £6.99

Maipo Valley Chardonnay by Cousino-Macul, Chile. 1999, 13.5%.  This wine had an excellent rich chardonnay nose .  The flavour was buttery, oily, soft and rounded but tempered by a rather sharp aftertaste.           14/20

          £7.50

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc by Kim Crawford, 2003, 12.5%.  This was a clear and pale example of the grape, without the greenish tinges of some wines.  The nose was of gossberries and cat's p......  In the mouth the wine was slightly spritzy and was full of goosberry flavours.  It was a frivolous wine with a long finish           15.5/20

          £8.99

Tyrrell's Cabernet Sauvignon, Australia. 2001, 14%. The bouquet was of woodland leaves with a hint of vanilla.  Although the flavour was full, dull fruit predominated with some vanilla.  The finish was soft with brittle edges             13/20

Navarrete Rioja, Navajas, Spain Tempranillo. 2000, 13%. This was a very dark red wine with a nose of apricot, pontefract cakes and stilton.  These flavours came through and the wine was full with some tannin, exciting, round and satisfying.         15.5 /20

         £7.50

Magpie Estate Mouvedre/Grenache, Barrossa Valley, Australia  2003  14%. The colour was a pale red and the bouquet was slight but fruity and with faint cherry.  The flavour was slightly light and was the longish finish.             13/20
